Fit Day
http://www.thedailyplate.com/users/profile/runfatgirl/
All I know is that I need some accountability in the food department so there it is. I haven't played around with it much but I set my cal goals for 1400-1800 and between 25-46 gfat.
The site says I need to lose about 2lbs/week to get t omy goal by 8/1/08.
Ya that is so not going to happen - sorry puppy my body just doesnt work like that.
On a different note I played soccer this weekend. It was great I was completely sweaty and lovin' it. I had however forgotten the pain in your upper quad that booting the ball upfield gives you. Man I was hurting this morning. But Im pretty sure that next Sunday I will head back and play again :)

Not your typical Pacific Northwest summer...
It's HOT! Dude, it's like Ontario hot (minus the humidity of course) but without air conditioning. I know we only get about 4 weeks of this stuff over a given summer but I vote that it's enough time to put AC in these condos. I can't even get one of those window or floor units because our windows push out, instead of sliding up or sideways. No central air! My mom the magician made me the drapes for my condo that have blackout material behind them. I have had them drawn shut for 3 full days straight, and rocking every fan in my house. I'm in permanent darkness except for the light coming from the main hallway, from having the door propped open to let the HALLWAY AC into my condo. Yes, can you believe it? The main areas of the building have AC but they don't retrofit the condos with central air? Seriously! I digress...
Not sure if Kirk knows, but I've signed up for the Portland Marathon on October 5th. As an aside, I rarely get my heart rate down under 160 so you're not alone. Today Colby and I planned to run 11 miles but didn't get out until 10:15 am. By that time it was already 89F (or 32C). Running with Colby is a love/hate thing. The guy's best marathon time is 3:02. That's a 6:56 min/mile over 26.2 miles. His speed training days had him doing 5:00/6:30 min/mile intervals. He is a FIRM believer in solid speed training with a long, very slow run on the weekends. I can't quite figure out how he doesn't kill himself on our long runs. I'm sure his long runs were in the 7:30 min/mile range, but he swears that the slow runs with me are good for him regardless of how slow we're going.
Anyways, today we headed off and typical of running with Colby it's faster than I'd like to cover 11 miles. We took off and ran the first few flat miles in the 9-9:15 range. It's was disastrous. The heat was unbearable, there was very little shade and the pace was too fast. He has been preparing me for a few days for a 1.5 mile hill on Freemont Avenue. Let me tell you... nothing could have prepared me. First, it was damn steep and I couldn't see the end... we stopped for a few seconds at one stoplight, and again when I had to walk for 10 seconds because I actually didn't think my legs could carry me. I hated him at that moment (actually, for most of the run). If I had been alone, I would have walked a mile of the hill (which was more like one and three quarter miles but who's counting?). He was so cool about it though, pushed me way harder than I would have pushed myself. He actually made me feel like I was a strong runner, because going up that hill I certainly didn't feel like it one bit.
We ended up getting back and cutting the run at 9.3 miles. It was just too hot and I didn't have it in me after the hill from hell. I really wanted to get in 11 miles today but he reminded me that the run we did was better for my training than 11 flat miles any day. Afterwards we went for breakfast and we were driving down this steep, long hill. He pointed to a runner and said "see that guy, you ran this hill today way faster than he is". Holy shit? I didn't even realize we were driving down the same hill (likely a result of the black spots I was seeing on the way up). For some reason, it made me feel much better about cutting the run short.
To close on that, as much as I hurt I know it was good for me and I'll take any chance I can get to run with him. I kept telling him to drop me and he absolutely refused, even when he could have taken off at some ridiculous pace. So tonight, I'm in the love stage of the running relationship. Tomorrow when I wake up and try to get out of bed, likely not so much.
I have so much more to say after 9 days of not posting but I realize I've just killed an entire post talking about weather and ONE run. Hats off to my girls who ran 13.1 miles in the half marathon today. Just standing in that heat for 2+ hours would have been torture, let alone running in it...
I wont even talk about the 2lbs of cherries I ate yesterday.
Thats right
2lbs.

Lonely Blog
I am also going to have a fairly short run to try and get a little cardio in before my ball game tonight. It's a BIG game tonight as I am playing against our old team so I like to be geared up for those games.
As for my diet, I took my Dad to the Jays game and had a sausage at the game. My stomach really isn't let me live it down. I think it is true what they say about your body getting used to something and really disliking change. Having my first bun in weeks has been a fairly tough experience on my insides.
Ahh well, live and learn. Off to the gym.

Leg Day AGAIN!!!
Anyone would pass on cardio to spend more time with her wouldn't they???
Back to my leg day, I did manage to burn close to 800 calories while lifting weights so it wasn't all bad.
Hope everyone has a nice day :)

Tool of the Devil

This may be the tool of the devil. I am having a little trouble standing, sitting, bending over etc... It's a good pain though.
Tried running again this morning. Sucked as usual but it was a little LESS shitty then yesterday. 40 minutes at a 6 MPH pace with a little walking in there. I should probably keep trck of my distance but usually I am more concerned with how many calories I have burnt.
I did a chest and back workout as well this morning. Nothing special there other then I had some tough time getting in and out of machines with my current ab discomfort. I wonder if I will ever SEE what is causing me so much pain.
Some good NEPA tonight. Playing 9 holes later today which should be fun.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Workout Today
However, I did burn some pretty decent calories so it can't be all bad.
I have soccer tonight and our team is SOOOO bad that I will get a supreme amount of NEPA.
We also saw the surgeon today and Baby Nator's HR was in the high 140's. So he is VERY healthy. Maybe he won't be fat like dad.
Eyebrows Up
I cant even control my eyebrows when I do it. He'll get down on the floor to demonstrate a glute bridge and my eyebrows nearly shoot off my head. This is why I didnt go into clinical work. Everytime I was with a patient they would mention some traumatic story and my eyebrows would arch up, off my head like "Jee willikers thats horrible". Not therapuetic at all.
We did mass amounts of quads and hams today, with and without extra weight. On top of that we did shoulders, which I usually enjoy but today it just wasnt happening. Imean it did happen cuz I did it but man did I not want to be doing it. did that just make sense...hmmm probably not.
Yesterday I ran 6.5 miles tomorrow we are supposed to do another run. I may do a short run (4-5miles) and then do elliptical and get in about 60-80 minutes.
Nutrition wise, hmmm Ive been doing well. Trying to cut out the fake sugar is more difficult than expected since it is in almost everything I eat. I have been good about limiting my carbs and increasing my protein. The big win is that I have not weighed myself today, that is a huge step forward since I usually weigh twice a day. Other than that not much on that front.
As I was leaving the gym today I was talking with Karin, a woman who works for the gym, and guess who walks by in non-regulation sleeveless work out gear? You guessed it - man do I love my T/Th workouts even if I do get dizzy and want to puke :)
Running
Carry on then, rant over.

Nasty in Me
OK, so last ya'll heard in my little saga I was fat and had bad hair. well the hair has grown on me - get it? grown on me? hahahahahahaha Ok so I am definitely an only child and laugh at my own jokes, I amuse myself. Anyway, my meaurements were up a little and my weight is about the same. I thought I was a freak b/c I felt like I was going to start my cycle ( sorry Kirk this is going to plummet to menstral cycle talk in 3...2...1....) which would be impossible right? B/c I had it two weeks ago and G*d cant be that mean that he would make me fat and have a period every two weeks...ya you guessed it - he is up ther laughing as I type.
No sooner had Aleks muttered the dreaded words of "I think I got my..." than I was like "Crap I got mine too!...Again!" I blame mostly Aleks. They actually have done studies where females who hang out adjust so that the menstrual cycle aligns with the Alpha female in the goup.
Well congrats, I will now be referring to Aleks as Alpha Aleks.
So I got this beautiful gift (aka curse) so I am going to redo my measurements next week when all is said and done. In the meantime, I actually have been doing well diet wise. My nutritionist has told me to cut out all the fake sugar because she suspects I am becoming insulin resistant because of it. She suggested I have real sugar in my morning coffee but only then. And did I mention she suggested that I switch to decaf or cut out coffee completely. At this point I havent had sugar in about a week except for this morning when I put 1 tbspn in my morning coffee. Who knows if it will work but I have nothing to lose except for the weight. She ended the meeting suggesting that I see my endocrinologist b/c she cant understand why the weight wont come off. Im up in the air over that one so that will remain in limbo until I am more comfortable with my decision.
On the treadmill this morning I was reminded to be thankful for the body I have, despite its aversion to getting smaller. Im not the fittest but Im also not the fattest which places me sqaurely in the middle of that beautiful bell curve. Which coincidentally looks like one of my butt cheeks.
I have to recommend two songs for the iPod or Zune, both by Chistina Aguliera I dare you not to dance, and not care when people watch, as you boogie it out on the treadmill.
#1 - Dirrty
#2 - Nasty in Me
Go ahead play em. I dare you to not move to the rythm of Xtina singing about being nasty and getting freaky with herself. Hell I full out sing the song on the treadmill after 6.5 miles, looking hellacious. But do I care - Hell no, cuz I still go that nasty in me.
New Measurements

I still need MUCH work. I think I need another 30+ pounds in order to be where I need to be.
I had a decent weekend from a workout standpoint. Leg day on Saturday which was VERY painful then some golf and baseball on my OFF day yesterday. From a diet perspective it was less then stellar but I had my cheat day in there on Saturday.
I was LATE again this morning. Maddy wanted to play some catch this morning with her new scoops and ball so I couldn't seem to get her dressed. Anyway, I will be doing an arm workout at lunch with a small amount of cardio. Then possibly a run tonight depending on the thunder storm situation.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Accountability
I haven't taken pictures in a few weeks because my camera is broken (seriously, my dog ate my homework). I will be buying a new camera this weekend at Costco, so no excuses! We did get measured this week. All in all, I'm down about 4.5 lbs in 5 weeks and here are the measurements. Slow and steady right? I remember working out much less this past December and losing weight much more quickly. Hmmm...
Chest: 38 in 37.25 in (-0.75 in)
Waist: 31.5 in 30.5 in (-1.0 in)
Hips: 41.75 in 41.5 in (-0.25 in)
R Thigh: 24.5 in 23.75 in (-0.75 in)
R Arm: 10.75 in 11 in (+0.25 in)
I also pulled out some measurements from 2006 to compare against the numbers above. I'll post those this weekend. A little depressing, but it does give me something to shoot for...
Posting
I didn't get a workout this morning. I spent my ENTIRE morning plugged into the passport offices chairs waiting patiently for them to process me. I am heading to NYC and Yankee Stadium in mid July so that I can see it before they knock it down. However, a MASSIVE pain in the ass trying to get a passport.
Anyway, I will be going this afternoon to get in a shoulder and ab workout. It will be a fairly short one as I only get so long for lunch. However, I will get a sweat on.
Just to stay accountable, I will do up some pictures tomorrow morning AFTER my leg workout. I will post some measurements then as well. For me putting myself out there REALLY keeps me on track.

Quote of the Week
Charles Poliquin
www.charlespoloquin.com
Fatty McFat
On the lifting side, I actually hit a little bit of a personal record this morning... 2 to be exact. I managed to bench 255 pounds for the first time ever. Managed to do it 3 times before I was afraid I might not get the 4th one off my chest. I then managed 7 chin ups. 2 cheater ones. I don't think I went all the way to the bottom but I am counting them DAMNIT.
For cardio, I ran for 30 minutes. Maddy made me REALLY late today because she wanted to snuggle in the bed for a while. So I only had time for 30 minutes. I actually felt decent running. my jumpers knee didn't hurt at all. I am still doing the 5 jog, 1 walk type running but it is getting easier... I should probably stretch that out more. When I try, my HR goes fucking crazy though. I will be playing 9 holes tonight as well for some MUCH needed NEPA in the rain.

Why am I hungry?
I'm going to pretend that it's normal for people that are active to eat like that, and that it's actually healthy and prevents binge eating. Everyone in my office can skip breakfast, have lunch around noon and eat dinner at 7 pm. I can't.
So today I did not, I ate when I was hungry and didn't overeat (striving for that "healthy" relationship with food). I went out to dinner with a friend, stayed away from the booze and had a deliciously healthy salad (with candied walnuts). Shoot me, I don't care... they're worth every calorie. Plus, I turned down the GIANT COSTCO strawberry cheesecake my teammate brought to the office today, so bring on the candied walnuts.
Had I not eaten since lunch, I would have had wine, bread, calamari, spinach and artichoke dip, seafood fettuccine and desert. So BOOYAAAH.
I don't care if my team makes fun of me for eating all the time. I can take it.
New Measurements
Ive had a bad hair month and I just got remeasured.
Chest 34.5"
waist 27.75"
Hips 42.5"
thigh 25.5"
arm 12"
My hips and thigh both went up by about 1/2 an inch. Yup that sucks. And after Carl's class today the pain level sucks as well. So physical pain and emotional pain all rolled into one - Yippee. Oh and dont forget the bad hair - thats like the cherry on top of my completely shitey day.

Homemade Carrot Cupcakes with Homemade Cream Cheese Icing
So I didn't deny myself... I had a nibble, the size of a nickel from a cupcake one of my teammates was eating. Afterall, I ran 7 miles this morning and if I totally denied myself I'd just binge on a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard at some point in the near future.
On tap for NEPA tonight, softball! And for the first time since our first game, we aren't getting rained out! I'm so excited, the weather is beautiful... I'm going to go put on my shorts now and sit at my desk like a little kid sleeping in their soccer uniform.
Did I mention that I love summer in Seattle?
From Hot Yoga to BIG HILL
To add injury to insult, the instigator of this foray into Yoga is Alek's friend danelle. Not only is this woman absolutely beautiful but the things she could do on a yoga mat - my G*d, thankfully the sweat covered up the drool. After class she was so excited and cheerful, looking radiant in a little white skirt. I on the other hand was needing a trip through the fluff cycle of a high power industrial dryer. Needless to say despite my swamp thing impersonation I will go back if nothing else for the variety.
Then on Monday morning, because Aleks and i were slackers on Saturday (we only walked on the treadmill for 30min) we went on a 7 mile run. It was absolutely beautiful about 55 degrees barely any clouds and Mt Rainier beckoning from a distance. We were runing with our running group 9 Nancy, Sarah and Tamara). At mile 5.5 we got to the HILL. as we started up I felt awesome, 'bout halfway I felt OK, by the top I felt like I was going to puke. It was 1.1 miles on steady and sometimes steeper incline, that is a long uphill. But we did it and there is nothing better than that feeling.
We will pay in Carl's class tomorrow.
On the diet front I am going into my second day of no sugar. I am embracing the "one day at a tie" motto. I considered giving up coffee. I also have considered a nipple piercing. Neither sounds particularly appealing and both will make me cranky. With that Im off to Starbucks.
Monday and Fathers Day
On Saturday, I played the LONGEST round of golf in my life. It was a best ball tournament to benefit PMLA and we had 8 somes on EVERY hole. 8 somes... two teams of 4 on EVERY hole all playing at the same time. We went off at a 10:00 shotgun and finished at 5:10. Even Tiger's round yesterday wasn't 7 hours. My group averages 13 tall boys each during the round. I kept to my guns and had NONE. The only positive was that we ended up winning it at -10. I was QUITE fantastic if I do say so myself :)
This morning I had ANOTHER leg workout. My first since my change of plans with respect to my training split. I would say it was sufficiently painful. My jumpers knee bugged me a bunch during my regular squats but not so much with my front squats or the 6:30 of pain. I DID manage to get through that but I had to cheat a little bit. I changed my foot position 4 times during the 6:30 in order to put the emphasis on different heads of the quad. I then finished off with some lunges and stiff legged deadlifts. It's a pretty intense hour. Since Maddy and I were a LITTLE but late this morning, I only had time left for 20 minutes or cardio on the stepmill. So, I will maybe get outside for a bike ride this afternoon AFTER TIGER wins the US Open.
My diet has been a bit of a struggle lately. I was pretty busy yesterday so I didn't eat enough early in the day. That meant I ate to much LATE in the day and ended up with to many calories before I slept. It effected me negatively on this morning's weigh in.

A First
I ran into Danielle at the gym yesterday and she convinced me to go to hot yoga this morning. I was down, and ran it by Allison who also agreed to go. I don't think she knew exactly what she was in for. I had attended a bunch of classes over a year ago, so for me, it was a distant, painful memory.
90 minutes of yoga in a studio set to 105F is not my idea of fun. But having survived, it really did feel good. You walk out of there looking like you stepped into the shower in your workout gear. The only difference is that your body rids itself of so many toxins that the water accumulating on you is actually murky. When it runs down your face and into your eyes it stings like a mofo. At one point we were in the plow pose (don't kid yourself, I can't actually touch the floor above my head like this woman in the picture), and the sweat was dropping off my quads onto my cheeks. Geeee ROSSS.
After 4 days of drinking in a row, I was happy to purge the crap from my system. Like purging all the negative thoughts from my head, all the crap that was building up under my skin dripped, one drip at a time out of my body. For the first time in weeks, my skin is actually glowing. I need a nap, or a coffee.
According to Danielle however, no coffee today. One step at a time, I'm going to grab an Americano. I'm also going to be tracking my food intake on FitDay this week... hopefully that makes me more accountable. TBD.
On tap for tomorrow, 7 mile run at 6 am.
Kirk, happy father's day! Hope you had a great weekend with Mad Dog and some good golf with your dad!

I think that is called addiction and the anxiety is a by product of the addiction, which is why I feel like a a straight up heroin user except my hit is a chocolate cake.
this week is going to be rough, I will not be pleasent.
you have been warned.

Over it... kinda...
It's amazing how the weather can help pick up our moods around here. The city really comes alive when the sun is out. Everyone is in a better mood, getting outside and playing hookie from work. Last night I was supposed to go home and work on the 200 unread emails I had in my inbox. Instead I met a friend and we got in 10 holes of golf. The work is all still there this morning, but it was worth it. Fresh air and a LIGHT beer on the golf course can lift my spirits any day.
Taking a much needed day off working out today, getting back at it tomorrow. Golfing tomorrow afternoon as well... might as well absorb all the sun I can while it lasts!

Big Changes
I have managed to get back some of my desire in the gym. I am COMPLETELY changing my training splits. I am going from:
1) Chest / Tris
2) Back / Abs
3) Shoulders / Bis
4) Legs
5) Rinse and repeat
To the following:
1) Chest / Back
2) ARMS
3) Legs
4) Shoulders / Abs
5) Offday - YA right.
This does a couple of things. It will allow me to hit the same muscle groups more frequently. For example, Triceps get hit during chest exercises and chest gets hit for sure during the dips and tricep cycle. It also puts ALMOST and off day before my leg day. Don't get me wrong, dips are tough, but working arms really doesn't tax the CNS like back or chest does. It also gets me back to the time when weight lifting was new and I was excited to hit the gym. But, I digress (as usual).
Dennis is also back teaching a cycling class 2 times a week at the new Golds Gym. Once he gets back from his biking accident that is. I think I will partake in these in order to help kick in some more calorie burnage. Endurance cycling with Dennis is a pretty fun 2.5 hours. Good tunes, ok people... There are many worse ways to spend an evening.
As for my diet this week, I have been bearing down. I am fitting into some skinny shorts now that I didn't even fit in when I was running triathlons in 2004. SO, I think I am making progress. I also think I MIGHT be getting bit by the triathlon bug again. Spending some time back in Wasaga beach this week brought back some VERY fond memories of running tris and I THINK I may want to do one again.
Hope everyone is set up for a great weekend. I will be playing MUCHO golf this weekend as it IS fathers day. One round Saturday, one Sunday. Good times. I will also be in the gym both days.
I think its called a scale, but Mom calls it a @#&% Liar!
diet is my downfall but i did well last night. we wne tto Matts in RTC and I got grilled prawns and scallops with basmati rice and cucumber salad. It was awesome, and I didnt even have desert which is huge for me.
This morning I had 1/2 a protein bar + apple before class and around 9am had plain oatmeal with cottage cheese, almonds and raisins.
Annoying as it may be I think I may need to record everything I eat on this blog to help with consistency because obviously being good 70% of the time isnt working.
Fucking scale. hate it yet cant live without it - man is that sick which is why I pay the therapist the big bucks. but it is amazing how a mere number can make your moods. I either step off the scale elated and proud or I step off defeated and feeling like my ass swallowed two watermelons.
And let me tell you no one should try that party trick.
A different kind of ow... a different kind of blog post...
I decided that I wasn't going to do a Trevor repeat, pine over a man for 2 years only to be completely devastated in the long run. Rewind to "you're the one I want to marry" followed by making out with my friend and reuniting with his ex girlfriend.
"Indy" is in town this week. After his good friend told me last week that I should get together with Indy, marry him and have four babies... I was like, F this... I'm not going to spend the next two years stuck in one place wondering where I stand. A few of my friends recommended that I just get it out, ask him straight up how he feels so that at least I know. Last night we went out to dinner with Kristina and Fritz and then we grabbed a drink alone after (well, more like 2.5 drinks but who's counting). I used my liquid courage to tell him about the conversation I had had with his friend, followed by "I have a giant crush on you". As obvious as I had been, he had NO idea. The fact that I can't string together a sentence when I'm around him wasn't really apparent to him, nor was the fact that I can't actually look him in the eye for more than 2 seconds without going into heat. Long story short, he played it all off... a "crush" really isn't anything at all and made light of the conversation. So it sucks, but I appreciate him making me feel like less of a moron about it all. We even joked about having to see each other at my office today.
As if that wasn't the worst part, we came back to my place to sober up and he left around 11:30. The guy was in my condo, on my couch with a good buzz... seriously. The first time I've been in this position in a LONG time where it didn't end up in at a decent makeout!
I went to bed at midnight, hurt and buzzed. I knew it would be tough to get up this morning to go to M.C. hungover, and in pain from the last few days of working out. But all I could think about was how much I needed a really big hug from Allison. I know that might sound lame, but when you live 2500 miles from home, hugs are hard to come by. I was up early today, was at the gym 15 minutes before class, lined up and waiting for some love. Allison delivered, in fact, so did Leslie from our class. Both said the obligatory "he's crazy not to like you, men are clueless" thing which all good friends should do when you've just been shot down. The hug and workout was just what I needed, to get me back on track and distracted from the events of last night. And as the mood was starting to pick up, Allison sealed the deal with a laugh (which she can always provide):
"You know, I know it seems really, really bad now but it's better to get this out now than be heart broken in the long run. But honestly, he's SOOOO stupid for not wanting to be with you. That's like, forgetting to write your name on the SAT stupid". Perspective is always a good thing, I'm sure I'll be on to my new crush in minutes. In fact, I always have a few in the hopper... I like to rock multiple crushes at any given time. I just have to elevate the status of my backup crush. ;-)

Ow Part II
I can echo Alek's words about MC yesterday, what was he thinking? My calves are so sore that walking any stairs right now is a small degree of torture. As for the run Im glad we did it because I would hate to feel what the lactic acid would be doing to my legs had we not run some of it away during our morning 6.3 miler. And Aleks totally kicked ass no matter what self depriving thing she said, she totally ran her brains out, sang to me the whole way and then sprinted home for the last 100 yards. I very much appreciate a running buddy who can challenge me and sing Mary J Blige to me at 6am :) That is truly mutlitasking at its best.
The bummer is I rolled my ankle and now its all puffy and hurts. Did that stop me from running - no! Did that stop me from wearing 3 inch heels - no! why you may ask? She's so hard core, some would say...I say its because I am a vain girl at the heart of it. Vanity gets me to the gym every morning and tells me to buck up and do it cuz thats how you get into the skinny jeans, or thats how you stop your thighs from rubbbing together like a grasshopper in a heat cycle or only having one chin when your body for some reasons thinks you should have three. I think admitting it is the first step in the road to recovery. Im never going to lie and say I run because of the beauty of nature or my cholesteral needs some work. At 29 I run because I want my ass to look awesome in a pair of Lucky jeans while I dance in my stilletto heels and pump my toned arms to the beat of music kids far younger than me listen to.
Machiaveli was a total nut job but he did have a point when he wrote about the end justifying the means. I guess it doesnt really matter why you go out and push yourself on the run, or drag yourself to the gym for some MC torture and then do it all again even when your body is seeing stars and vomit is precariously being held captive by your stomach. In the end it makes us healthier, and some of us happier.
Ow my ass...
Instead, Allison and I did the 6.3 mile loop we did on Monday except at A-Pace (Allison-Pace). She's crazy, I'm not in 9:20 minute/mile pace these days. Especially after the beating we took yesterday.
I officially hate Carl and Allison, or at least my ass does. :)
Tuesday, June 10
June, huh? Somebody tell the weather.
The string of rainy and cold days are taking a toll on my energy levels and my hair. Last night, we had a major wind storm (followed by more rain at night). I was working from the coffee shop in my building (I use the term "work" lightly because I couldn't focus long enough to do anything but surf the net), when the power went out.
At that point I really lost all motivation and decided to read in bed instead. The only benefit to the lights going out in June is that it's light out long enough to read until 9ish. I decided to crash around 9... without a functioning alarm clock and a dwindling cell phone battery. Of course I was all stressed out because I over indulged this weekend and absolutely HAD to make it to Mountain Conditioning today to combat the fat. I couldn't sleep thinking that I might sleep in this morning. The lights finally came on at 1 am at which point I set two alarms to compensate.
I woke up this morning tired and grumpy. I was also up 1.6 lbs from last Friday morning, which really made me angry (more so at myself than anything). Clearly Carl was suffering from the same afflictions this morning, he was on a tear. It was torture, definitely Carl at his best (or worst). He actually "made up" an exercise just for the fun of it. Put a Reebok Core Board on top of a step. Now, starting with one foot on the core board, step up and bring the knee of the leg that was on the ground up and then step back down with the same leg that was originally on the ground (the leg that was on the core board stays on the core board). This is repeated 40 times on each leg with the following arm exercise (80 total):
10 - Stepups with knee raisers with a bicep curl

We got a quick bit of "relief" by going into rock climbers and pushups and then had to repeat the series of 80 again. The added height of the step/core board plus the instability of the core board really brings you to the other side of hell and back. Sick really.
The most notable eye candy at the gym today was Steve Ballmer (THAT Steve B). Though he's no eye candy, I get all tense when I see him and giggle like a 5 year old girl with a massive crush. It's the celebrity status thing, no matter how many times I see him working out at the butt crack of dawn it happens.
Sorry for the long post and the kludgy description of the stepup exercise this morning. I wasn't sure how to get across the torture that it was. On tap for tomorrow, 60 minute run.

OFSAA
Since we are in Collingwood, I will be venturing out on a trail this afternoon for a LITTLE bit of a run. This city REALLY is beautiful. We are pretty much at the base of Mount St. Louis-Moonstone which although small is VERY pretty. I didn't bring my golfclubs either which was a REALLY dumb idea.
My weekend workout sessions were short and sweet. On Saturday I did back and abs... 7 count them 7 chin ups in one particular set. I am now up to doing 5-7 sets of chin ups on each and every back session. I think that is REALLY helping with my back strength. As for abs, the floor sweepers with the 15lb dumbell between my feet are really solid. Add in the wheel, then some crunches and you really are able to hit the ENTIRE ab area very solid. I then did 50 minutes of HIIT training since I KNEW I wasn't working out on Sunday. That was REALLY painful since it was SO hot out. Goodlife has been in the same location since 1980. The airconditioning they have in there was put in within a year of the building going up. SO, it really doesn't cut it. At one point, it was 29 degrees INSIDE according to the thermostat. I told them as I was leaving that although nice in short spurts, putting the stepmill INSIDE a sauna is a good way to get someone killed.
On Sunday, we had a baseball double header in the morning. One game at 9:00, one at 11:15. I lost a total of 11 pounds over that 4 hours. It helps that it was 44 degrees outside with the humidex. While I was driving to Collingwood I drank an entire gallon of water and didn't need to pee once. SO, to say I had dehydrated myself would have been an understatement. I was going to go for a run last night but we were under a tornado warning so I decided to stay home and watch Happy Gilmore.
Hope everyone has a great week. NO CHEATING :)
Weekend Recap
Having never been to Oregon, the girls joked that they were popping my Oregon cherry. And we did! Let's just be clear, the diet was not good this weekend... eating out, wedding food, bar food... not good. But there was quite a bit of NEPA. A quick recap:
Friday - Dinner at a seafood restaurant followed by 30 minutes of shopping for golf clothes at the Nike Outlet. Kirk, you would have been in heaven!
Saturay - We joined Scheris at 7 am for her last run before her wedding. Just under 40 minutes along the beautiful Oregon beach road. The wedding was at 2 pm and we all headed over to a local bar at 6:30. Lots of drinking, dancing and generally scandalous behaviour. ;-) After the bar we went back to the hotel to find a team of high school boys basketball players doing push ups in the parking lot. The young kids tried to sneak out of their rooms and were discovered by their captains who proceeded to punish them outside. True to form (and drunk off our asses), Sarah, Tamara and I decided to show them what some old ladies can do! We got down (in stilettos and jeans) and outdid them with one legged push ups. The captains nearly fell over laughing watching their team get out pushuped by a bunch of drunk women. If that weren't enough, we followed it up with static squats... although that was much less successful as it required more balance than we could string together after a series of bar shots. Finally we capped off the night with an after hours dip in the hot tub in the hotel.
Sunday - We headed back to Seattle, a little hungover and full from a buffet breakfast that soaked up whatever booze was leftover. I rolled into the condo around 4 pm and did some much needed cleaning (great NEPA). At 7 pm my buzzer rang and so commenced my second round of NEPA for the evening. For those who know, Law and Order (or Disorder) was on. Dear God, I'd like to thank you for civil service...
Back to the grind today, to recover from a body abusing weekend. We ran just over 6.3 miles this morning... to perfect weather, that was just holding on for us to get back to the club before it started to come down. I have a rain reschedule softball game tonight... which may end up getting rescheduled again due to heavy rains rolling in. I'll take the NEPA if I can get it... or the extra sleep if I can't.

Afternoon Leg Day
My 6 minutes of hell was really HARD. I really can't see myself getting to 8 minutes. I will keep trying but the last minutes of the 6 minutes was REALLY tough. It gets to the point where my legs won't listen when I tell my knees to unlock after my 5 seconds break.
As per blog rules, I will point out that there was NO quality ass at the gym during my workout. No good legs, no bums, no titties, NOTHING :)
I have not lost ANY weight this week at all. My diet has BEEN REALLY shitty. I am still sitting at my lowest weight in years but my frustration is getting to me a little bit. The slowdowns are tough and ONE slip up really fucks my entire week. In the first 8-10 weeks of my diet, I could make small mistakes and get away with them. My body was still trying to get used to clean eating so it reacted OK to slip ups. Now there is ZERO room for error and one wagon fall off is killing entire weeks. That is indeed maddening.
Needless to say, I REALLY need to buckle down. I am still a whale and have a LONG LONG way to go. NO giving up now.
I apologize for whining. I also apologize for not reference sex MORE then once in my BLOG. I will hopefully see better bums tomorrow as back day will be on time with cycling class.

Eye Candy?!?!?!!?!?!
It seems there is more talk about hot males (which doesn't interest me in the least) than anything else. I think you all are a bunch of crazy stalkers :)
However, if looking at male legs gets you to the gym and ONTO the Stepmill then I am ALL for it. The Stepmill was indeed made by satan himself BUT it was also made to turn fat folks into gods!!!!
I myself did 40 minutes of HIIT on the stepmill today and then 25 minutes of running on the treadmill. My HR monitor broke so I didn't have it working so I am not sure if I blew my heartrate outta the water but I felt good. I also didn't see ANY tig ole bitties OR nice poopers. However, I am going to tour Golds down the street in the next few days. Maybe the hot college chicks are over there :)
This Week's Confession
Short and sweet, I broke the two glasses of wine rule last night. It was more like four which kept me out much, much, much too late and yes... urgh... I missed Carl this morning. NEVER AGAIN. Two weeks in a row, I feel so dirty. Or is that a hangover? Good news is that I missed the class but haven't been eating my typical hangover junk food today...
Allison and I are both off to different weddings this weekend so it will be silence from me through Sunday at least. I'm happy to see Kirk finally post, I was worried we alienated him with all of that girl talk!

Working from Teleion
It's also a cesspool of junk food. They take regular trips to Costco and Trader Joe's to prepare for the next nuclear/earthquake threat. The amount of food here could literally fill up the Food Bank. Do you really need an industrial sized box of individually packaged Grandma's cookies in three, scrumptious flavors? Why do you need to put two cookies in a package, at 190 calories a piece? That's almost 400 calories in a pouch, the equivalent of a regular lunch! Now let's not even talk about the trail mix with dark chocolate M&Ms.
They also don't have a cafeteria like we do on campus where there are a bunch of healthy options. They certainly don't stock pile healthy snacks like I do in my mini fridge and filing cabinet in my office.
Because I'm rarely here we usually go out to lunch and often have happy hour at the end of the day to wait out the traffic congestion. I will be the first to admit that will power isn't part of my daily vocabulary. For this reason, I just don't have shit laying around my condo or office. If you put it there, I will eat it.
I managed to keep it together and have sushi for lunch. I did get into a peanut butter cookie and the dreaded trail mix after lunch... about a quarter cup full. Yes, in and around 500 calories in less than 5 minutes. Have you read Allison's post? I killed myself for 60 minutes this morning and wiped it all out in under 5 minutes.
Let this be a lesson that I can't walk out my door in the morning on my way to Teleion without grabbing my healthy afternoon snack from home. I'm now on my way to happy hour, where I'll limit to two glasses of wine and a salad for dinner. Just say no to the deep fried calamari.
Are you there G*d it's me, Cardio Day?
Between MC on Tuesdays and Thursdays I try to do three cardio work outs on MWF (and Saturday if Im inspired or training for something). Today was one of those days. Aleks met me this morning and we strecthed before choosing what cardio to do. We started with the step mill. Unlike its ancient predecessor the Step master, the step mill is a rotating stair case to hell. Truly made by Satan himself this machine burns an excess of 130 cal/10min on level ten. I admit I hold onto the handle bars even with Aleks screaming in her best Jillian voice impersonation "Noel let go of the handle bars". We decided for 30 minutes we would ride this satanic rollercoaster and let me tell you by the end i was fixated on the count down clock, drenched in sweat, praying to Jesus that it would be over soon. let me tell you if christians really wanted to convert Jews I would highly recommend saving the sermons or biblical appeals and just stick us on a stair mill, cuz after 30 minutes I was praying to whatever G*d that would listen.
After that we got on the treadmill and unlike Monday didnt puss out but ran for an additional 30 minutes. Im still getting used to not listening to music when I run, I may need to figure something out that would allow me to multi task listening to music and talking with Aleks. there is soething about Enrique Iglesias talking about pushing up on me that makes my run go alot faster - go figure.
But the best part of the cardio days is the eye candy. The saving grace of the stari mill is the prime elevated location where you can survey all the sweaty people. You see everyone, those struggling along with you, the beautiful obnoxious I -always-look-this-good-in-the-morning people, and the eye candy. It was a little weak this morning but our endurance paid off. In our final five minutes as we were dripping sweat and cursing each other Carl our MC coach got to work, beautiful legs and all.
I guess G8d was listening to my stair mill pleas but instead of enabling me and making the stair mill break or the fire alarm sounding bringing an end to my work out he sent me something better...inspiration all wrapped up in the best quads youve ever served a martini off of.

Soap Opera Deep Dive
Today was a new month and hence we added some new members to the class, and I have to admit, some decent "talent". Of the two new hotties in the class, only one sported the wedding band (the cuter of the two is single)! This new single male was also wearing a Microsoft t-shirt with "coming soon to Redwest B" written on the back! Redwest B is a stone throw from my Redwest A (my building). In fact, we share a cafeteria! Ha!
On a side track, there is another tall beauty in our class who joined about the time I joined. Apparently one day on the treadmill Allison drilled him on his stats (which by the way I have seen her do before and she is just so damn good at it). Anyways, turns out that hottie is not married, and girlfriendless. Score. So him and I exchanged banter and a quick laugh over shared dumbells this morning. Just before... oh yes, urgh, offset push ups.
Back to Redwest B hottie and his other hottie friend in the class. To my surprise, I'm eating lunch in the cafeteria today and who sits at the table next to us! You know it! So I immediately get all nervous and shaky and completely lose my appetite. I gesture to my lunch date that we should head back to our offices. On the way up I walk up to the two guys to drop the casual "hi, I work on the same part of campus as you". I get to their table and they give me this "who is this girl and why is she stopping in front of us" look. Clearly I'm no prize at 5:30 am, no makeup, in sweaty gym clothes and my hair pulled back. But to not even recognize me? Anyways, they confesses that they died in their first class and I reassured them with brutal honesty "it's only going to get way worse from here, he took it easy on us today". As I turn to go back to my office I decide on one more glance at the single one and urgh! He's wearing a wedding band! Apparently he couldn't pull himself together enough at 5 am to put the wedding band on. What a disappointment. Another one bites the dust.
Moral of the story. Allison is a great Pro Club wingman. It's a good thing too, because according to the two guys in my cafeteria, my morning "about to pass out and die in class" look doesn't work for me. I'm going to have to rely on my wingman and my charm. And my stalking skills... get the name of the single guy in my class, find out what building he works in and walk by his office (post morning shower and makeover) all day until I run into him. Shallow and crazy? You bet... it is a soap opera after all isn't it? And we single girls have to work HARD these days!!!
Soap Opera
Like any good script the plot is simple: Middle age woman wants to lose pounds, look hot and feel good about herself. She has a best friend who aids her on her journey ( Aleks) and a bunch of supporting roles who add humor to her day ( the running group). There is of course romance ( between her and her husband) and the torrid affairs between the beautiful young personal trainers, who think the clients dont know - but we do. In a very bridget jonesy fashion said housewife has difficulty speaking with said hot trainers without her voice rising at least two octaves. Further, the stammering and grunting that occurs as characters try desperately to get into the "skinny jeans" is a must see TV moment.
I always thought I wanted to be a low drama person, but this is so much more fun. Even with all the crying and moaning, the pain of MC and marathon running I wouldnt trade it for anything - Im totally in it for the Emmy.
Cookie Monster
Anways we walk in to the locker room and its smells like your mothers (cuz my mother never did this) kitchen with freshly baked sugar cookies. Have you ever seen a bloodhound stop and scent? Nose in the air, tail at the ready, body poised to lunge and pounce after its prey... Ya that is basically the image of me smelling the amazing cookie smell.
In a really loud voice I ponder why the gym must smell like high calorie heaven. Is G*d tormenting me for not pushing myself the last 30 minutes? Are the ProClub sadist at work on a new evil scheme?
Nope, a woman getting dressed across from us pipes in that it is her lotion and that supposedly if you smell something it helps reduce the cravings.
Ya and my name is Tyra Banks, Im a gorgeous 6ft tall victoria secrets wearing black woman.
I almost ate her and told her that in the future she should be wary of wearing that scent in a locker room full of tired, carb deprived middle age women.

Work Out on Bravo
Anyways, the point of this post. In this last episode, Jesse took his client to Sugar (a clothing store in LA) to buy a "goal" dress. She had lost 25 lbs and had a whole lot to go but he wanted her to find an LBD (Little Black Dress). He told her it had to be something she was terrified of, something that she would absolutely never think of wearing. That way, when she made it to goal weight, she would experience a feeling better than any she had ever felt before.
She goes and buys this dead sexy LBD and on her way out she says "I'm hanging this on my fridge, seriously". Brilliant. Over the years I have had pictures of skinny me on my fridge, magazine cut outs of hot women on my fridge, but never the ACTUAL SKINNY JEANS. What good are they doing hanging on my closet door? They should be in the danger zone, hanging on my fridge! No wait, the pantry is where I get into trouble. Yes, they should be hanging on the pantry door!
And that is where they lay... on my pantry door, staring me right in the face.
Pooped!
Yesterday I ran with Jess and then napped for 2 hours in the afternoon. I dragged my ass off the couch to go to the Brazil v Canada soccer game at Qwest Field, and crashed the second I hit my pillow after the game. Not sure what that was all about, I have been getting 8 hours of sleep lately. I would take my temperature but I don't own a thermometer. :)
I am on this hiking kick so I got together with an old friend and hiked Tiger Mountain up to Poo Poo Point this morning. I was really pooped (lame but I couldn't resist). It was just 1900 feet of elevation over 4.5 miles up (9 miles out and back) but I was not at all motivated. I was still tired and the trail was boring compared to Lake Serene or Mount Si. The top of the climb has AstroTurf laid out as a launching pad for para gliders. I was PROMISED para gliders. No dice. It was cloudy and cold so we stopped just long enough to eat a Cliff bar and made our way back. At least I got some good girl gossip and burned some calories. Oh, and had some french fries with chipotle mayo at Red Robin on our way home. Just a few. :)
This last Tuesday was 2 weeks since we started the blog and took our original measurements. That gives me 10 days until the one month measurements. That will be 2 days after spending this coming weekend at Scheris' wedding in Oregon. Talk about motivation to stay on the wagon during the trip... luckily Nancy reads this blog so she can keep reminding me of that when I'm about to jump off the red wine edge.
