First post from LoHOHO

Discliamer: Blame Aleks for giving me permission to share my obessessions with weight loss and gain and of course my fear of growing old.

My name is LoHo and I work with Aleks. The reason I'm here - well Aleks and I have the extreme pleasure of working at one of the best companies in the world. A company where - back in the day - if you wore pants over your boxer shorts, shoes instead of mocasine slippers, and actually took a shower more than once a week you were considered the hot babe of the office. Unfortunately Aleks and I do not live in those dark, but wonderful times. Our office culture has changed and along with the great family benefits, values for balancing work and life, and free sparkling water has come an abundance of skinny, happy, smiley, tight jean, high heel wearing, young bitches...excuse me hot twenty something girls. They trot down the halls smiling their newly bleached teeth and deep clevage - putting mid-tier managers and executives into a sexual frenzy that would shutter the best of HR departments.

None the less, this leaves me with no other choice, but to slim down, dress up, and obsess about my weight and disappearing youth like the rest of them (The bleached teeth and botox are coming - just waiting for that tax return).

You are so right - I do have another choice - I could sit there in the company cafeteria with my grande hold the skim, give me all the fat double mocha capp and bavarian creme filled donut and watch my gut grow from a muffin top to freaking popover, but I just can't. I just don't want to be the fattest cow in the all hands meeting.. and its as simple as that.

So now you know a little about me.. I really look forward to blogging and sharing my experiences and stories.

Motivation

Hey Aleks,

That was quite the long winded post.

To answer a couple of your questions.

1) Dennis still does teach cycling and the classes are STILL outstanding.
2) You can go to his classes when you use your free week.

I think also that the exchange with Carl may have offended you cause he is right. Julio MAY be the main reason outside the weather. But guess what. Who the fuck cares??? This is something new in your life that has been missing for a while. The high school lads was one thing, but a serious relationship is QUITE another. I would say to Carl that he can stuff his jealousy in a sack and go f' himself. You aren't willing to pass up on something new and GREAT for his class. I cannot really blame you. NO one can.

As for the motivation for exercise, it is VERY cyclical. It seems to happen for everyone. I ALSO ran into the same wall and it was the cycling that got me outta the rut. Also, having a goal is the easiest way to get motivated. Coming off a huge race like you have, finding another goal might seem to be tough. Maybe work towards a triathlon for next spring??? Just a suggestion. Might give you something to work towards. You are like me in that way. You work out a lot harder when you have something to work on.

On a completely lighter note to make everyone's day. I posted a new picture of MKG.

Kirk, I'm reading

And I think a few others are too. I'm looking forward to working out in Ptbo, I wonder if I can go to one of Dennis' classes. Damn he was a good cycling instructor.

Now I have to vent. Read this Facebook email exchange between myself and Carl, the Mountain Conditioning instructor.

Carl: Will you be back in class? I'm back Tuesday...Allison will guilt you back.

Me: Probably not, I'm having a hard time getting up for 6 am workouts... 5:30 am in the winter is just cruel. Even with Allison's guilt trips...

Carl: Julio.

Me: I trained pretty hard for 4 months in preparation for the marathon. I still workout 4-5 days a week, just a little later in the morning. It's not the 6 days I used to do and not nearly at the same intensity, but I want a little down time to recover and find inspiration again. Julio isn't impacting my motivation, if anything it's at least getting me out the door to workout these days...

I don't know why I was so irritated by his reply, or why I took such offense to it. The truth is, I'm lacking motivation in more than one area of my life right now. For a couple of years I was go, go, go with work and recently two things have happened:

1. I hired a full time employee who has taken on a lot of what I used to do which frees up a lot of my time.
2. With recent budget cuts, the areas I was going to focus on are no longer funded so I'm struggling to find new and interesting projects.

All of the other parts of my job I've been doing for so long I can do them with my eyes closed. I'm trying to find motivation in different projects. My boss is extremely busy himself and I'm just searching for guidance. I know, woah is me, I should be happy I even have a job in this economy. I just want to have impact in my role, and feel like I'm really contributing. I'm not used to coasting, and steady state is a motto I just hate. I'm trying to find my way back out of that hole.

As for the workouts. I do feel sluggish lately but I think that's a function of not being happy with my job, and the dark, cold, rainy mornings. For F's sake... 4 months of training 6 days/week and a girl can't get away with 4-5 days/week of less intense workouts? No, I'm not working out as hard and yes, I could probably workout harder. But guess what, I'm still feeling like I don't have all of my energy that I had 6 weeks ago and I'm not driven by a major, upcoming race. I've gone through this "slump" before, but back then I would be lucky to get to the gym twice in a week, if I got there at all. Back then I would also eat and drink a lot more, which I'm working really hard at not doing this time around. One more point... even heading in to the marathon I said that the time before November and January 1st I was going to take it easier, and workout without a plan, or mileage in mind. This was the plan all along, what's wrong with that?

I'm not looking for sympathy, or understanding... but I am hoping my friends aren't thinking that my lack of motivation or ability to get to the gym at 5:30 am has something to do with my boyfriend. And really, forgive me for wanting to get an extra 30 minutes or an hour of sleep with him in the morning. It's been three years since I had the kind of intimacy and connection with someone where I could stay up a little later talking, and enjoying their company. This period of our relationship won't last forever, and I'm going to enjoy it for the next couple of months.

I know my friends are supportive and understand what I'm feeling. All of us go through slumps and periods where we're more and less active. I think I just needed to get this all down "on paper" so that I too could look at the issues from all angles.

Sorry for the long post. I had to get it all out.

Aleks

Skiing is a GREAT work out. I really miss it.

We ALREADY have you looked after for Thanksgiving. We have 2 free week passes that you can use at your convenience. Most of the employees there are ex-Goodlife guys which is a sad state for Goodlife. All of their employees are being poached I would imagine for the greener pasture.

I also didn't realize how much I missed RPM. I hadn't taken a class since Dennis left Goodlife. Now going 3 times a week to his classes. Really love that workout.

I will continue to post as long as someone is reading :)

Still kicking... sort of

Kirk, thanks for posting! I am tired of the lonely blog, it's nice to know you're alive. Allison is also alive, just buried in school work and papers whose titles I can't read let alone understand.

It really is a sad day, but I'm glad you've put your foot down. Goodlife in Ptbo has been long neglected and there really are better men out there for you (I mean, gyms out there for you). Anyways, Gold's is a very solid setup and they have BTS (at least they do in the US). So, you don't have to forgo Body Pump or RPM. ;-)

As for me, I am finally getting back into weight training. I'm shooting for the following schedule each week now that the marathon is over.

Monday - Circuit training class
Tuesday - Run
Wednesday - Circuit training class
Thursday - Run
Friday - OFF
Saturday - Longish run/Skiing
Sunday - OFF/Skiing

I bought a season pass for skiing this winter and the goal is to get out twice during the week in the evenings, and head out to another hill on the weekends. We'll see if that comes to fruition.

I'm having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning for runs with the girls because they are early, dark, cold and usually rainy. Plus the warm body snoring next to me makes is really difficult to leave! I've been getting up later and running on my own, but usually for only 30 minutes or so.

That's it for an update from me... I'm around the same weight as I was right after the marathon but I think I'm losing muscle mass. Not a good thing.

Oh, and I'm coming home for Thanksgiving! Flying in on November 27th and staying until December 1st. How are you going to hook me up with free passes at Gold's as a total newbie?

End of an Era

Well, it is a sad day in Peterborough Ontario. Goodlife has lost their longest term member (I think anyway). I was a member there starting in 7th grade. A total of 18 years. However, we made the change last night to the shiny and new Golds Gym in Portage Place.

It was a very SAD day. However, Ange was looking for a new place to get in shape and wanted to be able to go to Dennis' cycling classes 3 times a week.

The gym itself is insanely equipped. It is missing ONE major piece of equipment. There is NO stepmill. They are on back order so the lady said so there is hope for me yet.

No one seems to be reading this blog anymore but I am going to continue posting. If only for my own selfish gains. We are going to Florida in January and I have every intention of being slimmer.

Motivation

Polska,

You motivated me... I MAY have overdone it. My first leg workout Sunday morning since I hurt my knee playing ball.

I am really having a tough time with the sitting, standing, walking stairs... Generally I CANNOT move. I did however feel REALLY strong while I was working out. Maybe it's cause I am fat, fat but I was able to handle 315lbs on my squats for 6 then 4 reps... So fairly good. I am regretting it NOW!!!

I had an arm workout this morning. I was late since I was out late watching one of the WORST movies in history. So I was ONLY able to get 30 minutes of cardio in with my arm workout. I will do some biking this afternoon after work in order to get my cardio ALL in. I think that may help loosen up my legs. They need some loosening.

I really appreciated the POLSKA on your bib. It shows you are in touch with your roots.
